On this page I will share my thoughts about using ICT in schools as well as any helpful ideas which can be used by teachers.
Primary Animation
Here is a video I found on “teachers.tv” website about using animation in the primary classroom. I think it is a good example of how ICT can be integrated with Key Learning Areas such as Creative Arts. It also proves that using technology does not have to be a complex project, therefore any teacher can attempt it and all students can be involved in the process.

Using Computers in Schools
I came across an article on ‘The Australian’ website entitle Low Marks for Computers in Schools (June 2008)which stated that there was an ‘avoidance culture’ in schools in regard to teachers using ICT. The reasons they believe that teachers were reluctant to use them is because there was “little evidence of profound improvements in student learning or teaching….they saw ICT use as more work, peripheral to the main game in schools, avoidable, not guaranteeing improved learning outcomes and outside their experience and expertise.”
This unit has allowed me to think about this issue in a different light as I now believe that there are many great advantages to using ICT in the classroom as it is a motivating resource,
a medium for presenting material and something which teaches valuable skills that students will use throughout their education and possibly in their chosen occupation. The possible reason that teachers today do not want to use computers could be a lack of confidence which means that in order to combat this issue, there needs to be more professional development to teach them technological skills and make them more aware of the advantages of using ICT that have been discovered through research.
